The New France map and book are part of an 18 volume series produced by National Geographic which included more than 50 thematic maps. Each map was produced and researched by TMF to be historically accurate while also matching the story and content of the text.

Six books in the series were named to the 2006 Notable Children's Social Studies Trade Books for Young People.

Ten books in the series were nominated for the 2007 James Madison Book Award.
